BUTTERMILK MARY [2]. AKA and see "McGlinchey's," "Scarce o' Taties (2)," "Sweeney's Buttermilk," "Charlie Lennon's No. 2." Irish, Reel. B Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Sometimes called "Charlie's Buttermilk Mary," and perhaps because of this it has been attributed to Charlie Lennon. Lennon, however, denied having anything to due with the tune which was actually written by fiddler Brendan McGlinchey of County Armagh, who called it "Sweeney's Buttermilk." Thus "Buttermilk Mary" is an erroneous title, attached due to its similarity with the original.
