The tune is a version of McGlashan's "Duke of Gordon's Rant (The)" (c. 1787), more famously "Lord Gordon's Reel." Brendan Breathnach had "Pride of Kildare (3)" as an alternate title for "Lord Gordon's Reel," obtained from the Alex Sutherland music manuscript c. 1950. It appears to researcher Conor Ward that Sutherland changed the Ryan's Mammoth (1883) title from the Kildare "Bride" to "Pride."
