The tune appears in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon biography:James Goodman as an unitlted reel. Goodman manuscript researchers Hugh and Lisa Shield find the first strain cognate with Glasgow musician and publisher James Aird's "Trip to Clumber (A)."
