O'Neill gives source credit to uilleann piper James Early, one of his Chicago contemporaries. Paul de Grae believes "My Maryanne"/My Mary Anne" (also in O'Neill's, sourced to Early's playing partner, fiddler John McFadden) is a reworking of the tune. Earlier versions (Goodman, Levey) can be found as "Galway Reel (3) (The)."
