REELFOOT REEL. Bluegrass, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB'. Composed by Kentucky mandolin player Bill Monroe [1] (1911-1996), the "Father of Bluegrass." A Reelfoot reel is a type of fishing reel used for both casting and line storage, still quite popular in Western Tennessee, although Monroe probably was had in mind Reelfoot Lake in northwestern Tennessee when composing the tune.
