SHEEP-SHEARERS, THE. AKA and see "Esqr. Lesstar," "Next Oars." Irish, Slip Jig or Air (9/8 time). D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Joyce obtained the melody from the large collection of an earlier musician and music collector, John Edward Pigot (1822–1871). Curiously, the two strains of "Sheep-Shearers" form the first two strains of a four-part tune called "Esqr. Lesstar," published in London by Daniel Wright in 1715.

Source for notated version: - Frank Kidson says P.W. Joyce copied the tune from Dr. Crotch's Specimens, where it appears on the same page as another tune in Joyce's collection, "Nobe's Maggot."
