CLINKIN O'T, THE. Scottish, Reel (cut time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. There are melodic and harmonic similarities to the 6/8 tune "Peggy's Wedding (1)" notwithstanding the the second strain of the latter tune is in the relative minor key. William Christie notes that "Clinkin o't" is "Old" in his 1820 collection. He may be referring to the tune, however, he may be referring to an older song called "The Cowgate Garland, or the Drinking O't", printed in an old chap (Motherwell Collection) :--

My wife and me we did agree,
When married I was thinking o't,
Her daughter Kate she angered me,
Then I began the drinking o't.
O weary fa' the drinking o't:
O weary fa' the drinking o't:
An ye begin as I did then
Your purse will lose the clinking o't.
