I learned the tune from a cassette of unidentified tunes that Garry Harrison gave me. When I recorded it, not knowing the artist or title, I just picked that name because I had recently read something about that place. Later I found that the tune was from Joe Wingerter (1913-1978) of Rockwood, Randolph Co, IL. I should have recognized the recording because it was made by me & Steve Harrison 15 February 1977. Mr. Wingerter said it was "an old song tune," so nowadays I call the tune "Joe Wingerter's Old Song Tune." It is on "Prairie Dog & Other Fiddle Tunes from the Midwest," Marimac 9039, cassette (1991) (Recorded in 1990 by Larry MacBride.) -- Chirps
