ASPINWALL HORNPIPE. American, Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning. AABB. The most famous American Aspinwall (who may or may not have anything to do with the title), who lived just prior to the publication of Ryan's Mammoth Collection, was William Henry Aspinwall (1807-1875), a shipping magnate whose steam vessels formed the backbone of the California gold rush passage, and who built the first railroad across the Isthmus of Panama. A philanthropist, he was a founder of the Society form the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), and in 1869 helped found the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
