MISS BETTY ROBERTSON'S REEL. AKA - "Miss Betty Robertson." AKA and see: “Kitty Clyde's,” “Kitty Robertson," "Miss Betsy Robertson." Scottish, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Edingurgh fiddler-composer and bandleader Biography:Robert Mackintosh (c. 1745-1808) who first printed it in his Sixty-Eight New Reels, Strathspeys and Quicksteps (Edinburgh, 1793) and reprinted it in his Fourth Collection of New Strathspeys and Reels (c. 1804). The melody also appears in the c. 1780-1810 music manuscript collection compiled by British army fifer (and perhaps fiddler) John Buttery (sometimes referred to as the 'John Fife' collection because of a family member). Buttery joined the army in Lincolnshire, and perhaps compiled some of his music at sea, for battles in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean are mentioned in the ms. After completing his service he eventually emigrated to Ontario, where his manuscript collection was passed to his family.
