HUMOURS OF LISHEEN, THE. AKA and see "Dwyer's Jig," "Thrush in the Straw (2) (The)," "Woeful Widow (The)." Irish, Jig. Ireland, Sliabh Luachra region of the Cork/Kerry border. E Minor/G Major. Standard tuning (tuning). ABB' (Moylan): AABB (Cranitch). Lisheen is a Lisheen is a crossroads settlement about a mile and a half from Knocknagree, County Kerry. The tune has been a popular one with Sliabh Luachra musicians over the years, remarks Maire O'Keeffe. Paul de Grae identifies a variant-with a slightly different second part-printed in Bulmer & Sharpley Music from Ireland (vol. 3, No. 62) under the title "Thrush in the Straw (2) (The)," the name by which the tune was recorded by piper Seamus Ennis in 1959. O'Neill printed a version as "Woeful Widow (The)" in his Dance Music of Ireland (1907).
