LATE FOR THE DANCE. American, Reel (2/4 time). USA, Illinois, Mid-West. A Major. AEae or GDgd tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is from fiddler and farmer Jim Reed (1902-1985) of near Benton, Franklin Co., Illinois, who played for area dances for many years. The tune was collected by musician and folklorist Garry Harrison who recorded that Mr. Reed played rhythmically, with short strokes and a variety of bow ornaments.
