Tune properties and standard notation
CHARMING FAIR MAID, THE. Irish, Slow Air (3/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. See also the dorian mode variant "Have You Seen My Valentine?", which is a variant of "Raibh Tú ag an gCarraig? (An)" (Have You Been at Carrick?).
Source for notated version: transcribed by Chicago police sergeant and fiddler James O'Neill, originally from County Down. James was an accomplished amateur fiddler and musician, and collaborated with Francis O'Neill (no relation) on his seminal work, Music of Ireland. James himself had a large repertoire, an excellent ear, and was a quick and accurate transcriber.
