A Dorian (Kennedy, Raven): A Minor (Martin): A Mixolydian (Cranford, Glen, Perlman). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Kennedy, Raven): AABB' (Martin, Perlman)" AABB'CCDD' (Cranford, Glen). David Glen credits the tune to Alexander MacLeod and gives the date 1862 for the composition in his c. 1876 bagpipe collection. The tune is a standard among many Cape Breton fiddlers and pipers. See also William Ross's pipe march "Highland Rory (2)" and the Donegal variant "March of the Meenatoiteen Bull (The)." See also the related first strain of "Reel of Kilwinning (The)."
