MIDINETTES, LES. French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEE. Jean Duval explains that 'les midinettes' refers to sentimental young women. J.A. Boucher called the tune "La Québécoise" in his 1927 unpublished music manuscript collection, a precursor to his 1933 publication. It was one of numerous name changes of tunes from one to the other, as traced by Duval, who also finds several of the five parts of the tune similar to or reminiscent of other tunes in the Quebec repertory. The C section evokes the A section of "Ah! Women" (see the recording of this piece by Eddy Sanborn, alias Philias Malouin, on the virtual gramophone). The D section, on the other hand, is similar to the A section of the "Reel St-Antoine" recorded by Jos Bouchard).
