HICKMAN COUNTY. AKA - "Hoedown in Hickman County." Bluegrass, Breakdown. USA. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by bluegrass fiddler Paul Warren (1918-1978), born and raised in Hickman County, Tennessee. He won renown through his long, fifteen year association with Flatt and Scruggs, but never recorded a solo album. He entered the Army in 1942 and survived capture and two years in a German POW camp, where legend has it that he entertained the guards by playing “Under the Double Eagle,” a tune of German origin.
