Biographical notes
FRANK McCOLLAM (1910-1973?), of Ballycastle, north County Antrim, was a bagpiper, accordion and fiddle player best known for his fiddle playing and compositions such as "Home Ruler (The)," which he played in a set with another of his hornpipe compositions, "Hangman's Noose." According to Dick Glasgow, McCollam had a passion for bees, restoring old clocks and "going to the moss". He was a member of the local Ballinlea Pipe Band and the first chairman of the local a branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in the 1960's (while, at the same time master of the local Orange Lodge). He was visited by Cathal McConnell, Sean Ryan, Liam Donnelly and others.
