The Edinburgh Parish register records that James Boick, musician, married Sally Tricey (a deceased mariner's daughter), on Aug. 18th, 1797. The Borders musician John Pringle wrote a Strathspey entitled "James Boick" c.1801. Much later, Hamilton's Universal Tune Book (Glasgow, 1844) contained "James Boick's Reel]," 'now printed for the first time'. Robert Petrie included two of Boick's tunes in his Fourth Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jiggs and Country Dances (c. 1805), "Miss Norton of Norton's Strathspey" and "Miss Stewart of Ederadeynat's Jigg." Boick issued a folio called "Tom Thumb a Favorite Dance with Three New Strathspeys and a Reel. For the Piano Forte &c." in Edinburgh around 1810.
