Biographical notes
WILLIAM GAGNON (1901-1979) was a fiddler from Jonquière-Nord, Quebec, near Chicoutimi, north of Quebec City, located on the Saguenay River, about equidistant from the St. Lawerence River and Lac-Saint-Jean. His fiddling repertoire was representative of the Saguenay region, learned in part from his father, also a fiddler. Gagnon worked as a carpenter, but played for local events such as dances and weddings, both solo and with groups. He performed for ten years at the Carnaval de Jonquière-Nord.
