Biographical notes

William Mackie was a player of Highland Great Pipes and Union (uilleann) pipes, who compiled a personal music manuscript collection in the early 19th century. Some of the tunes in the collection appear to be set for flute and/or violin, so Mackie may have played those instruments as well. His set of Union or Pastoral bagpipes now reside in the collections of the National Museums of Scotland [1]
