POPLAR BLUFF. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Kentucky. D Major/Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The source for the tune is legendary northeastern Kentucky fiddler wikipedia:Ed_Haley, who influenced many who heard him. "Poplar Bluff" is often attributed to him, albeit without substantiating evidence; nevertheless, he seems to be the sole source for the melody. The tune is difficult to play, requiring use of higher positions on the fingerboard, and the tonality shifts with many accidental notes.
