PUT MY LITTLE SHOES AWAY. American, Air (4/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. "Put My Little Shoes Away" is an 1873 song written and composed by Samuel M. Mitchell (lyrics) and Charles E. Pratt (music). It has been frequently recorded through the years beginning in the 78 RPM era, and has endured as a popular song among bluegrass performers. The first two stanzas go:

Now, come and bathe my forehead, Mother
For I'm growing very weak
Let one drop of water, Mother,
Fall upon my burning cheek

Go and tell my little playmates
That I never more will play
Give them all my toys, but Mother,
Put my little shoes away
