The tune was included by Kirkmichael, Perthshire, fiddler and composer Robert Petrie in his Second Collection of Strathspey Reels and Country Dances (1796, p. 10), although Charles Gore finds it earliest printed in Robert Mackintosh's "68 New R., Str. & Q./Steps" (1793). John Glen gave the tune as "Honorable Mrs. F. Gray."
