"BOSS", THE. AKA and see "Old Horned Sheep (The)." American, Jig. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. See also Donegal fiddler John Doherty's tune "Pet in the Kitchen (The)." American origins for the tune are doubtful, as it appears to be an amalgam of two old Irish tunes, "Humors of Donnybrook" and "Sweet Biddy Daly" (the 'A' and 'B' parts, respectively). The title is perhaps a reference to Jimmy Norton (see note for "Boss Clog Hornpipe (The)").
Printed sources: Cole (1000 Fiddle Tunes), 1940; p. 76. Ryan's Mammoth Collection, 1883; p. 108.
