Tune properties and standard notation
CASTLEBAR TRAVELER, THE. AKA and see "Spence's Reel (1)," "Showman's Reel (The)," "Reel of Bogie (The)," "West Gale (The)," "Yeoman's Reel (The)," "Laurel Bush (The)," "Humours of Loughrea (The)," "Tuehey's Reel," "Lough Aisles Return," "Gossan that Beat His Father (The)." Irish, Reel. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was recorded in 1927 as the last in a medley (along with "Dunmore Lasses (The)" and "Manchester Reel (3)") by flute player Tom Morrison (1889-1958), originally from Whitepark near Glenamaddy, Co. Galway. Morrison lived in the north of England for a time, then emigrated to the United States where he settled in Brooklyn, N.Y. He recorded extensively during the 1920's. The medley was recreated in a 1937 recording by the Aughrim Slopes Ceildhe Band.
