Tune properties and standard notation
CHARLOTTETOWN CALEDONIAN CLUB. Canadian, Pipe March (2/4 time). Canada, Nova Scotia. A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Mabou Coal Mines, Cape Breton, fiddler and piper Archie Beaton, whose hey-day was around the turn of the 20th century. Barry Shears notes that the Charlottetown Caledonian Club (Prince Edward Island) sponsored a piping competition in 1895 at which pipers from the Maritime Provinces competed as well as pipers from Scotland. Beaton entered the competition late, after all had played, but was allowed to compete by the judges, and ended up winning first prize. The Scottish pipers were said to have exclaimed that Beaton was not only a piper, but a 'professor of pipe music', and the name instantly stuck, for he was known as 'Professor' Archie Beaton from that time on.
