Tune properties and standard notation
CHRISTI(E)/CHRISTY CAMPBELL. Canadian, Strathspey or Reel. Canada, Cape Breton. A Major. AEae or Standard tunings (fiddle). AB (Dunlay/Hughie and Mary MacDonald): AAB (Dunlay/MacKenzie): AABB' (Dunlay/Campbell). The tune is usually played in 'high bass' (AEae) tuning on Cape Breton and is a favorite of fiddlers on the island. Dunlay & Greenberg call this the Gaelic version of "The Miller of Drone," and, indeed, many have noted the striking similarity (although Mark Wilson notes that many Cape Breton fiddlers play both and consider them separate tunes). Two verses of mouth music for "Cairistiona Chaimbeul" (Christie Campbell) can be found in John Shaw's booklet accompanying Topic 12T354 ("Cape Breton Scottish Fiddle").
Sources for notated versions: Hughie MacDonald, John Willie Campbell, Carl MacKenzie and Mary MacDonald (Cape Breton) [Dunlay & Greenberg].
