GENERAL TAYLOR'S MARCH. American, March (2/4 time). USA, southwestern Pa. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. A formerly popular southwestern Pa. fife march. The title refers perhaps to Zachary Taylor, a general during the Mexican War of 1846-47, hero of the battles of Palo Alto, Resaca de la Palma and Buena Vista, and later elected (on the strength of his martial popularity) the 12th President of the United States.
