GREEN GATES [1], THE ("Na Geataí Glasuaine" or "Na Geataide Glasa"). AKA and see "Women's Rock (The)." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). "A great dance tune," opined Martin Mulvihill, who used it as an accompaniment to the sixteen-hand reel. AB (Breathnach, Mulvihill, O'Neill): AABB (Flaherty, Mallinson, Taylor). The alternate title "Woman's Rock (The)" appears in O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1903), although by his 1907 Dance Music of Ireland the title had changed to "Green Gates."
