I'LL LAY NO MORE WITH MY MOTHER. AKA and see "Bride will be no more with her mother," "Grace's Farewell," "I cannot get to my love and I should die." Scottish, Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The tune was composed by Joseph Reinagle about 1783???. The title, according to Johnson, means, 'I won't need to share a bed with my mother any longer (as I'll soon have a husband)'. The melody appears in the (James) Gillespie Manuscript of Perth (1768). As "Small drink won't comfort me" it is in the 1770 music manuscript collection of Northumbrian musician William Vickers.
