Tune properties and standard notation
MRS. DUFF (OF FETTERESSO’S) STRATHSPEY. Scottish, Strathspey. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Kirkmichael, Perthshire, fiddler and composer Robert Petrie (1767-1830). It appears in his Second Collection of Strathspey Reels and Country Dances (1795), a volume dedicated to his patroness and employer, Mrs. Garden of Troup. Mrs. Duff was Mary Morrison (c. 1768-1833), the wife of Robert William Duff (1767-1834), 2nd of Fetteresso, whom she married in 1789. She was the grand-daughter of General Abercrombie of Glassaugh, M.P. Henry Raeburn painted her portrait [1] in 1799. They live at Fetteresso Castle, a gothic style Palladian manor built in 1761 around a 14th century towerhouse, and is located in Kincardineshire near the town of Stonehaven.
