KERRY REEL [1], THE/A. AKA - "Rogha Chiarraí," "Kerryman (The)." Irish, Reel. E Dorian (Em). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. See also "Green Banks of Rossbeigh," "Green Fields of Rossbeigh (The)," "Pairceanna Glasa Ros Beithe," "Tom Clark's Fancy," "Witch of the Glen (The)." The melody was recorded in 1926 by Kerry fiddler Michael Hanafin under the title "Green Fields of Rossbeigh (The)." In 1959 another Kerry fiddler, Denis Murphy (1910-1974) recorded it in Dublin as the first tune in a medley including "Steampacket (the)" and "Colonel Frazer." County Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman recorded "The Kerry Reel" in New York in the 1920's, paired with "Perthshire Hunt (The)/Boyne Hunt (The)."
