LADY MARY MENZIES REEL. AKA and see "Lady McNabb's," "Lucy Campbell (3)," "Miss Louisa Campbell's Delight," "Pudding Maggie." Scottish, Reel. F Major (Athole): F Mixoldyian (Bremner). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The dance instructions, but not the music, are contained in the Menzies Manuscript, 1749, in the Atholl Collection of the Sandeman Library, Perth. They go:

1st pair goes cross hands round with the 2d pair then back again & casts off, then the 1st woman and the 1st man leads up and sets to the 2d pair then leads down and sets to the 3d pair; then the 1st woman turns the 2d man & sets to her partner, then turns the 3d man and sets again to her partner who was doing the same on the woman's side: then reels at the sides, & falls into their places.

John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of the tune in print in Robert Bremner's 1757 collection (p. 82). It also appears in London publisher Longman and Broderip's Compleat Collection of 200 Favorite Country Dances (1781, p. 66), and in the 1782 music and dance manuscript collection of Jeremiah Brown (Seabrook, New Hampshire). The melody is related to "Lucy Campbell (3)." Peter Kennedy (1997) gives the tune as "Lady McNabb's."
