GOVERNOR JONES' MARCH. AKA and see "Dow Everly (1)." American, March (4/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The march appears in several of 19th century Boston publisher Elias Howe's early publications. The tune was perhaps named for William Jones [1] (1753–1822) was the eighth Governor of Rhode Island (from 1811 to 1817), and the only member of the Federalist party to hold the highest office of the state. Samuel Bayard (1981, Dance to the Fiddle) sees similarities with "Russian March", also published by Howe in the Musician's Companion.
