LONG NOTE, THE. Irish, Slide (12/8 time). D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BC. A slide version of the first two parts of "Jenny's Welcome to Charlie," with which it is often confused in sessions. Many players prefer to think of it as a reel rather than a slide. It was the theme song of an influential Monday night RTE program, also called The Long Note, in the 1970's and was thus popularized in the repertoire.
