LORD BATH'S GATE. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was originally published in Bride's Twenty Four Country Dances for the Year 1769 (London). It subsequently appeared in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773), Straight and Skillern's Two Hundred and Four Favourite Country Dances, vol. 1 (London, 1775), Skillern's Compleat Collection of Two Hundred and Four Reels and Country Dances (London, 1780), Longman and Broderip's Compleat Collection of Two Hundred Country Dances (London, 1781), and James Aird's Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 5 (Glasgow, 1797). Manuscript versions may be found in the 1788 copybook of fiddlers John and William Pitt Turner (Norwich, Conn.), who entered numerous tunes from the Thompsons' 1773 collection, and in the manuscript collection of Northumbrian musician William Vickers, begun in 1770.
