MATELOT, THE. English, Jig. E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A Matelot is a sailor, but it is also the name of a dance in Holland akin to a hornpipe, albeit performed in clogs with the hands behind the back instead of crossed on the chest (as in the English hornpipe). See also the French and Dutch "Matelotte" tunes.
