MILESTONE [2], THE. AKA and see "Carrigaline," "It's a Hard Road to Travel," "Rocks of Cashel (1)" "Steeplechase (2)." Irish, Reel. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was recorded in 1932 in New York by fiddle duo Paddy Killoran and James Morrison as "Steeplechase (2)," which is the most common title for the tune in modern times. The tune has sometimes been confused with "Millstone (The)" due to the similarity in titles. In fact, the melody appears as "The Milstone" in Belfast fiddler Sean Maguire's 1975 collection (with Josephine Keegan). Maguire reproduced James Morrison's famous medley of "Flax in Bloom (The)," "Millstone (The)" and "Dairy Maid (The)" on Folktrax FTX-375, yet on that recording the tune is spelled 'Milestone' instead of 'Millstone'.
