MOUNTAIN TOP [2], THE (Barr an tSléibhe). AKA and see "Crooked Way to Dublin (1) (The)," "Dillon Brown (1)," "Doon Reel (1) (The)," "Holly Bush (3)," "Quinn's Reel (4)." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Breathnach, Miller): AABB (Mulvihill): ABCC' (Connolly & Martin). As "Holly Bush (3)" the reel was recorded in New York in 1924 by the expatriate County Sligo fiddle duet of James Morrison and Paddy Killoran. "Dillon Brown (1)" is a related tune. Kerry fiddler Paddy Cronin recorded the tune in Boston in the 1950's on a Copley Records 78 RPM, under the title "Quinn's Reel (4)" (in a medley with "Doon Reel (3) (The)"). In the latter 20th century the reel was associated with the duet playing of fiddler and flute player Peter Horan and Fred Finn of Killavil, County Sligo. County Sligo (and Philadelphia) fiddler John Vesey recorded it as "Mountain Top (2) (The)."
