KILTYFANAD REEL, THE. AKA and see "Black Mare of Fanad (The)," "Nine Points of Roguery (The)." Irish, Reel. Ireland, County Donegal. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC. A cognate of the better-known "Nine Points of Roguery (The)," made popular by James Byrne, but also associated with fiddler Padai Bhilli na Ropai, a native of the southwest Donegal village. Padai Bhilli traveled to America and stayed a short while, influencing composer and fiddler Ed Reavy. Not to be confused with the "Coillte Fanad Reel," a different tune.

Source for notated version: Francie and Mickey Byrne (County Donegal) [Feldman & O'Doherty].

Printed sources: Feldman & O'Doherty (The Northern Fiddler), 1979; p. 163.
