MISS MURRAY OF ELLIBANK'S FAVORITE. Scottish, Jig. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. William Shepherd also composed a tune for Miss Murray's mother, "Honorable Mrs. Murray of Ellibank’s Strathspey," probably Mary Clara Montolieu, the daughter of Lt.-Col. Lewis Charles Montolieu, Baron de St. Hypolite, who married Alexander Murray, 7th Lord Elibank, in 1776. The couple had three children, two of whom were female, Elizabeth and Mary and both unmarried at the time Shepherd published his second collection (1800).
