G Major (Brody): D Major (Messer, Miller & Perron, Phillips). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. An American blackface minstrel song whose words and tune were written by New England abolitionist Henry Clay Work [1] in 1872, and tell of the effect of Lincoln's emancipation proclamation on a Southern plantation.
