WAITING FOR THE FEDERALS. AKA and see: "Federal Hornpipe," "Get Away from the Federals," "Old Coon Dog," "Running from the Federals," "Seneca Squaredance," "Shelby's Mules." Old Time, Breakdown (2/4 or cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Ford): AA'BB' (Bain). The tune is usually known as "Seneca Squaredance." Ira Ford's title, "Running from the Federals," seems like a condensation of the titles "Run Boy Run" and "Waiting for the Federals."

Source for notated version: Bain (50 Fiddle Solos), 1989; p. 22. Ford (Traditional Music in America), 1940; p. 109.

Recorded sources: Compass 7 4403 2, Aly Bain & Phip Cunningham - "Best of Aly & Phil" (2005). Whirly WHR 01, Aly Bain – “First Album” (learned either from fiddler Jay Ungar or singer/songwriter Jim Ringer, Ungar’s source. Ringer would sing or play on the harmonica the melodies of fiddle tunes he had learned when growing up in Arkansas).
