OPERA SCHOTTISCHE, THE. English, Schottische. G Major ('A' part), D Major ('B' part), & C Major ('C' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABACA. A very popular light music piece composed by Henry Kleber (1816-1897), published in 1853, and republished throughout the rest of the 19th century (its popularity derived, in part, from its ease of playing). Kleber was a classically trained musician who emigrated from Darmstadt, Germany, to Pittsburgh and opened a music store where he tutored young American songwriter Stephen Foster.
