DANCE OF THE HONEYBEES. AKA - "Ladies Choice No. 2" (Dara Rogha na mBan). Irish, Hornpipe. D Major. Composed by Leitrim-born piano player and fiddler Charlie Lennon in April, 1986, as a waltz-hornpipe suite. The suite was written and titled "Ladies Choice" for the band De Dannan and their production "An Island Wedding". Lennon was supposedly inspired by the buzzing and humming of honey bees around Howth, in North County Dublin; the waltz symbolically describes bees buzzing from flower to flower, while the hornpipe represents the 'bee-dance' performed on their return to the hive.
