Lagan is the name of a river in the north of Ireland that runs through Belfast, and the name of a locality of East Donegal/West Tyrone; this name refers to 'low-lying ground'. "Lagan Slashers" was contained in a few late 19th century musicians' manuscripts from Counties Leitrim and Longford, such as the Meagher MS c. 1900 of Gaigue, Ballinamuck, Co. Longford, and the Reilly Family MSS c. 1900 of Toome, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim (where it is entered as "Legan Lashers").
