MRS. BUTTER OF FASCALLY REEL. Scottish, Reel (whole time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Perthshire fiddler-composer biography:Duncan McKercher, the "Dunkeld Paganini," who published several tunes dedicated to the Butter family as well as many more for the interrelated Perthshire Highland families. 'Mrs. Butter' was Jemima, youngest daughter of James Richardson of Pitfour Castle, Perthshire (see McKercher's "annotation:Mrs. Richardson Pitfour's Reel" for notes on that family), who married Archibald Butter of Fascally in 1834. Jemima was the sister of Sir John Stewart Richardson, Bart, of Pitfour Castle. See also McKercher's companion tune "Mrs. Butter of Faskally's Strathspey."
