RISING OF THE YEAR 1715, THE (Tha tighinn fodham Éiridh). Scottish, Strathspey or Air. E Flat Major (Fraser): G Major (Morison). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "The chorus of this air, and its name, are well known to allude to the rising of the year 1715; but the bacchanalian song attached to it is in compliment to Allan Macdonald of Clanranald, slyly instigating him and his followers to rise in what they called 'the rightful cause.' It is extraordinary to find that this little ancient air embraces the subject of two favourite Scots tunes, which seem to have been built upon it, viz., 'Over the Moor among the Heather (1),' and 'Peggy now the King's Come,' -- while the original, in the Highlands, is in as great request as ever" (Fraser).
