HALEY'S FAVORITE #1 JIG. Irish, Double Jig. C Minor ('A' part) & E Flat Major ('B' part) {Carlin}: G Minor {O'Malley}. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB.

John Kimmel ()

Brooklyn accordion player John J. Kimmel recorded the tune in New York in June, 1919, for Victor Records as one of a medley called "Haley's Favorite Jigs." Accordion player Luke O'Malley noted in his collection: "Sean Maguire learned this one from me in 1959 when he stayed at my house for two weeks. I have since seen it in a collection, Sean Maguires."

Source for notated version: Donny McCarty (Springfield, Mass.), who learned it from Boston button accordion great Joe Derrane [O'Malley].

Printed sources: Carlin (Master Collection), 1984; No. 264, p. 151. O'Malley Collection, 1976; No. 90, p. 45 (appears as "John Kimmel's").

Recorded sources: Green Linnet SIF3040, De Dannan - "Ballroom" (1987. Learned from a recording of New York Irish accordion player John J. Kimmel, who recorded between 1904 and 1929). Victor 18727 (78 RPM), John H. Kimmel (1919).
