BREACH OF KILLIECRANKY, THE. AKA and see "Barrack Hill (2)," "Killiecranky (4)," "Lass of Killiecrankie Highland (The)." Irish, Reel and Highland. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. See also various Irish versions: a single jig in O'Neill called "Barrack Hill," and Donegal versions as "The Lass of Killiecrankie Highland" and an untitled march by fiddler John Doherty (Topic 12TS398). American derivatives were collected by Samuel Bayard from southwestern Pennsylvania fiddlers under titles "Kate Lay Sleeping," "Kate's Laid in the Hay," "Whitewashed Kate" and "Round and Round this Green Sugar Tree" (See Dance to the Fiddle, 1981, No. 251). Bayard also links the melody to vocal play-party pieces and shanties (see note for "annotation:Round and Round this Green Sugar Tree" for more).
